  • Sara Ashback

    Sara Ashback of Ridgefield, Washington is currently a Junior at Montana State University, majoring in Civil Engineering and Mathematics. After completion of her studies, Sara hopes to spend a few years using her education to assist in disaster relief efforts abroad. She is an active member of Alpha Omicron Pi Women’s Fraternity, AGC and also volunteers at the Voice Center on campus, a place to support survivors of interpersonal violence. Outside of her education, Sara enjoys playing the piano, hiking, snowboarding and shooting. Sara also had the memorable experience of getting to swim in the Amazon River last fall.

    Maxwell Beaudoin of Seaside, Oregon is currently a Sophomore at Oregon State University pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering. He states his interest was sparked when he “worked in the construction field for summer jobs during high school, and was always intrigued by the geometry and design of the bones of a house.” At Oregon State, Maxwell is actively involved in the American Society of Civil Engineers. During his spare time, he enjoys hiking, biking and kayaking. Maxwell is also a motorcycle enthusiast as well as an avid racquetball player.

    Alexandra Budlong of Albany, Oregon is a Sophomore at Oregon State University pursuing a degree in Construction Engineering Management. “First, I hope to be an example to girls and young women that construction is an industry in which they can survive, thrive and become leaders. I hope to find a position working as a project engineer for an Oregon-based contractor, and on a path to leadership and ultimately, hopefully, ownership.  I look forward to developing mentor-mentee relationships within my company, helping my company grow and be successful, and becoming a mentor myself.” Alexandra is a member of the Oregon State AGC Student Chapter and will be the President for the 2016-2017 school year. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, spending time with her family, as well as being out in nature.

    Garrett Childress of Gresham, Oregon is a Sophomore at Oregon State University majoring in Civil Engineering. He reports having chosen this major “because I look forward to being a part of the betterment of my community through the improvement of infrastructure. I am also looking forward to solving real life problems with math and science.” Garrett is currently a member of the Oregon State Steel Bridge Team, as well as the Oregon State Bass Fishing Club. In his free time Garrett enjoys water skiing, fishing and golfing with his friends.

    Nicholas Hossley of North Bend, Oregon is a Freshman at Oregon State University pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering. Nicholas states, “With this degree I want to design anything from roads, bridges and culverts to community water systems in both rural and urban communities around the world.” He is actively involved in American Society of Civil Engineers where he has been appointed Freshman Representative and elected as Executive Chair for the 2016-2017 year. Nick is also a part of the Oregon State Triathlon Club and enjoys skiing, running, backpacking and mountain biking in his free time.

    Kolton Mahr of Grants Pass, Oregon is a Senior at Oregon State University pursuing a dual-major in Forest Engineering & Civil Engineering. He chose to double major because he "couldn't decide between forestry and civil engineering when a math teacher told me about a dual-major program at Oregon State. I made a trip to visit OSU in the spring of my senior year of high school and met with an advisor. I decided that it was too good of an opportunity to pass up because it allowed me to study both of my interests and receive two Bachelor's degrees in 5 years." Kolton is a member of the Oregon State University Chapters of SAF (Society of American Foresters), the American Society of Civil Engineers, Phi Kappa Phi honor society and the Theta Chi Fraternity. In his spare time Kolton enjoys hiking, rafting, fishing, driving down backroads and photography.

  • Louis Nash

    Louis Nash of Lakeland, Florida is a Sophomore at the University of South Florida studying Civil Engineering. He reports having been inspired to choose this degree by his father and Evan Clemson of Advanced American Construction. Louis is an executive board member of the University of South Florida Rugby Club, a member of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers and a volunteer with USF Stampede of Service. Louis’ hobbies include playing rugby, working out, watching sports and spending time with friends. When he graduates Louis hopes to work on large scale marine construction in the Pacific Northwest.

He states he “chose this major because I enjoy the wide variety of projects associated with the civil engineering field and look forward to working with large scale projects.” At Oregon State, Matthew is a member of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity, the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Associated General Contractors Student Chapter. In Matthew’s spare time he enjoys being outdoors doing activities like bow-hunting, fishing, camping, hiking and riding quads.

    JGrant Schroeder of Corvallis, Oregon is a Junior at George Fox University pursuing a major in Civil Engineering with a minor in Business Management. Currently, Grant is the Quarterback on the George Fox University Football Team. He is also a member of the GFU Engineering Student Advisory Board, the GFU Student Athlete Advisory Committee as well as the GFU Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Outside of school he is a member of the Special Olympics Lifting of Oregon and Anderson Construction Company. In Grant’s spare time he enjoys outdoor recreation, especially football; as well as hiking, camping, marksmanship and skiing.

    Jason Sweet of Coos Bay, Oregon is a Junior at Oregon State University pursuing a degree in Construction Engineer Management. “I was inspired to choose CEM as a major because ever since I was young, I’ve always been intrigued by heavy equipment and the construction of complicated structures. I wanted to be a part of building some of the structures I was always in awe of as a child.” Jason is a member of the AGC student chapter at Oregon State University. In his free time Jason enjoys hunting, fishing, playing golf and riding dirt bikes.

    Wiley Wolfe of Portland, Oregon is a Junior at Oregon State University pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Oceanography. Last summer Wiley worked at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute designing, building, and testing a tool to autonomously measure dissolved carbon dioxide in the ocean or rivers. Wiley states “I hope that in the future I will be able to use my new found oceanographic skills to improve underwater construction.” In his free time Wiley enjoys playing volleyball for the OSU Men's Club Volleyball team and loves being in the great outdoors. 

  • Qi Wu

    Qi Wu of Vancouver, Washington is a currently a Sophomore at Clark College pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering. Qi states she knew at a young age that she was passionate about science and how things work; there was never a doubt that her major would be in the engineering field. Qi is involved in Clark College Student Government, Outdoor & Recreation Club, Veteran’s Club, PTK and the International Club. In her spare time Qi loves to travel and see the world, she also hopes to volunteer overseas in the future. Qi is a member of the United States Navy Reserve; she spent four and a half years in active duty where she was an Aviation Machinist’s Mate. She has been deployed to numerous different places, such as Korea, Philippines, Guam and Singapore.

    Devin Wyckoff of Buxton, Oregon is a Senior at Oregon State University majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Business and Entrepreneurship. Devin has interned with Oregon Iron Works, Advanced American Construction, and Daimler Trucks North America. He is a math and physics tutor at Corvallis High School as well as a member of ASME and the OSU Robotics Club. "With the help and support I have received from all of the great people who support the Schweiger Memorial Scholarship, I have been able to grow as an engineer and a person in ways that would not have been possible on my own.”
