    Ian Birrell of Beaverton, Oregon is a sophomore at Oregon State University, where he is pursuing a degree in Construction Engineering Management. He is involved with the Corvallis Boys and Girls Club where he serves as a chaperone, and volunteers with the local CASA organization. Ian is active with the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity and enjoys hiking and spending time outdoors during his free time. He has always enjoyed working with his hands and hopes to use his degree to become a field engineer after graduation.

    Environmental Engineering at Oregon State University

    Kacy Childress of Boring, Oregon is a second-year student with senior standing at Oregon State University, pursuing a degree in Environmental Engineering. She was valedictorian of her graduating class in 2017 and is involved in numerous extra-curricular activities such the OSU Engineering Leadership Academy, the Society of Women Engineers OSU Student Chapter, and the all-female A Capella group Divine, where she serves as the musical director. Her hobbies include running, hiking, soccer, and slalom water skiing. Kacy says “My goal is to help construction companies to engineer sustainable solutions to conserve the natural resources that we all enjoy in the Pacific Northwest. I am also hoping to play a role in inspiring other women to pursue their interests in engineering and other STEM fields.”

    Franklyn Correa of Ketchikan, Alaska is a high school senior at Ketchikan High School and has been accepted to Princeton University for the upcoming academic year, where he plans to pursue a Civil Engineering degree. He is the Vice President of Rotary Interact, a member of the Youth Advisory Council, Secretary of the National Honor Society, and his hobbies include volunteering, woodworking, building computers, and playing the piano. Franklyn hopes to combine his passion for service and science with his degree in Civil Engineering and says, “I hope to gain the necessary skills and knowledge to perhaps improve the quality of life for people who are just like my parents and relatives, whether that be domestically or internationally.”

    Civil Engineering at Oregon State University

    Kristian Hellberg of Camas, Washington is a sophomore at Oregon State University where he is pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering. He is active in OSU Intramural Football and Softball, the AGC Student Chapter, and Ducks Unlimited, and in his free time enjoys hunting big game and waterfowl. Kristian was inspired by visiting his grandfather’s construction sites and hopes to use his career in Civil Engineering to benefit his community by creating infrastructure that will generate value for generations.

    Nathaniel Koenig of Gresham, Oregon is a senior at Sam Barlow High School, and plans to attend George Fox University in the fall to pursue a degree in Civil Engineering. He is involved with the Banfield Pet Hospital, the Sam Barlow Youth Leagues of Football, Basketball, and Track, the ASB Leadership at his high school, and mentors a special needs junior high student. Nathaniel says he was inspired by his grandfather, who was a civil engineer for over 40 years, and hopes to use his career to benefit his community.

    Farren Linne of Ketchikan, Alaska is a freshman at Gonzaga University, pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering. She is involved in the Society of Women in Engineering and the Society of Civil Engineering, and her hobbies include playing intramural soccer, hiking, fishing and camping. Farren was inspired by her father who was frequently building and working on houses, and plans to use her career in civil engineering to build structures, road systems, and bridges.

    Corbin McCord of Ketchikan, Alaska is a Junior at Oregon State University, where he is pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He is a member of Oregon State University’s Army ROTC program, through which he has attended the US Army Airborne School at Fort Benning, Georgia, and the Advanced Camp at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He’s also an active member of the Sigma Nu fraternity at OSU, and in his free time he enjoys target shooting, fly fishing, hunting, and lifting weights. He hopes to use his degree to join the engineering department at the City of Ketchikan.

    Brett Meador of Independence, Oregon is a junior at Oregon State University, where he is
    pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He is a member of the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society, the Oregon
    State University Product Development Lab, and volunteers with the Christian Aid Ministries, Hoemcare Child Care, and
    the Talmadge Middle School. In his free time, Brett enjoys travelling, reading, gardening, stamp and coin collecting, and
    genealogy research with his grandfather. He plans to focus his career on machinery and parts design, and 3D modeling.

  • Grace Ray

    Construction Engineering Management at Oregon State University

    Grace Ray of Gresham, Oregon is a senior at Oregon State University majoring in Construction Engineering Management with a minor in Business and Entrepreneurship. Grace states that she did not find the construction industry, but the construction industry found her. She grew up playing with building blocks and trains and helping her father in HVAC. Currently, Grace is a member of the International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC), The National Society of Leadership and Success, and is an intern for the OSU Capital Planning and Development Department for three years. Outside of class and work, Grace enjoys spending time with family and the great outdoors.

    Vlad Slivkov of Woodburn, Oregon is a junior at Oregon State University where he is pursuing a career in Civil Engineering. He is involved with the AGC of America Student Chapter and the Institute of Transportation Engineers Student Chapter, received the International Baccalaureate Diploma and the Oregon State Seal of Biliteracy, and during his free time enjoys soccer, volleyball, restoring cars and playing acoustic guitar. Vlad plans to become a professional structural engineer and hopes to use his career to design and modify buildings with updated earthquake safety standards in the Pacific Northwest. In addition to his studies, he has accepted a civil engineering internship position with Bonneville Power Administration for the summer.

    Travis Waggener of Harrisburg, Oregon is a sophomore at Oregon State University, pursuing a degree in Construction Engineering Management. He is a member of the Oregon State University AGC chapter, volunteers as the pole vault coach for the Harrisburg High School track team, and his hobbies include fishing, kayaking, snowboarding, and raising livestock. Travis has always found the construction industry fascinating and hopes to use his education to help build a smarter, safer world for everyone. He says, “I wish to complete projects and see our communities grow with the help of my knowledge and strong work ethic.”
